Default Possilbe Solution Hard Crash-Grey Stripes

Turns out that my new 5670 doesn't like something as I suffered the first blackscreen lockup about 3 hours after installation.

That forced use of the reset button

This morning I suffered the Gray Screen/Stripes issue that forced a hard reset once again.

After some digging, it seems that this is a common problem for the 4/5 series cards and I'm hoping that it's driver related and not a hardware issue.

Now all I have to do is stress test the card using some benchies and see if it crashes/locks the system using the default VGA driver. If I'm able to go 72 hours w/o problem, I'll consider the solution useful and since I'm not a gamer (my most demanding is SimCity 4 - Rush Hour) I'll simply stick with it until they finally get stable drivers.

Your new system has everything up to date, right? From previous posts of yours I would say so. Wait until next catalysts, they should come maximized for this new series.

Grabbed the rc3 driver and that seems to have solved the problem for me since I haven't had a crash in 24 hours now.

I'm using the 9.12 hotfix driver and was getting the Hard crash-grey stripes screen in games like L4D, Dirt2, and COD-MW.

After switching to the dvi connector at the bottom (the one away from the Hdmi port) all my problems miraculously went away. It's been 4 days of gaming about 6 hours daily and no problems.

I suspect this is a hardware problem with most of these cards. May explain why half the people get it, and the other half don't.

If you believe I am incorrect in this assumption please share your views. I would like to believe its a driver issue and not a hardware issue.

In the last 10.1 release notes, Ati admits there is a problem with the hard "grey stripe" crash, but hasn't fixed it yet.

"Intermittent grey screen or vertical line corruption may randomly appear on the screen"

    Hopefully 10.2 will fix.

This helped with the infamous GSOD.

Been running strong for about 6 hours playing Dirt2, L4D, borderlands, COD:MW, and no GSOD.
