    Default Cool power supplies?

Hiya guys! I can't believe its been 3 years since my last post here O.o

Quick question...anyone know of some power supply selections that run cool while still providing enough juice for a VaporX 4870 and PhenomII X2 550?

Living in Florida makes heat output a major concern for me. We just had our first few cool evenings but temps in the mid 80s (30ishC) are predicted for the coming week...in November!

While idling things are fairly cool but as soon as I crank up a game my current supply (520W, 34a 12V) starts pumping out heat like my hair dryer on Late-To-Work Chernobyl setting.

I would like to spend not much above $100 if possible.

Thanks in advance for your time and help with this.

    Heya,..

Corsair TX series / Enermax Evo/Revo/Modu/ or Galaxy series / PC&C Silencer Quad series .. dunno how cool they'll run tho, I'm not in that sort of environment, in fact for me, it's the complete opposite "" .

Hey GG Did ya miss me? Meh, prolly didn't even know I was away. Thanx for the reply. I've done a good bit of hunting online for this sort of info but noone seems to brag about the heat output of their power supplies... just wattage, amperage, efficiency, etc.

If anyone has a good supply that doesn't blaze up under load please chime in and let me know about it. It would be greatly appreciated.

    Heya,..

Any of those I mentioned above would probably do just fine .. I've tested all bar the Enermax Galaxy and Revo units .. must be said though, you'd be best off talking to someone in the same region as yourself, it's been 12*c here for ages .. with a drop forecast for soon enough .. been so long since I've seen a real Summer, it's getting to be really boring having - Winter - bad weather - Autumn - Winter !!
Used to be a standing joke with the tourists when they asked about the climate here, my reply was always "3 months of Winter and 9 months of bad weather ! Ever wondered what horizontal rainfall looks like ?" .. LOL

Oki-Doki I'll check prices on those units and make a decision. Thanks again for your time

And as for your climate there... at least you aren't getting slammed with enormous air conditioning bills

I missed this forum... I think I'll stick around for a bit and see what mischief I can stir up!

    Close .. 1976 .. and then in 2003 .. I remember the summer of '76 quite fondly.

Now, late 1981 / early '82 was a Winter and a half .. IIRC we had temps in the minus 10s .. maybe colder.

So the heating bills here offset your AC bills .. I'd rather it the other way round TBH LOL .

I personally would use a coairsair 750tx if crossfired otherwise a 650 for a single card. I have bought 3 of them 2 x 650 and a 750 in the kids. They stay cool and are i think underrated compared to others.
Personally i use a silverstone 1000 strider the older one with a single 12v rail.

They have what i used to have the 3.0 quad amd am2 plus with 4 gigs ocz ram and 4870 512mb. Its a very good computer. Mine on the other hand is a am3 with a 3.4be oc to 3.8 with ddram3 at 1600 with 8-8-8-23 timings and dual saphirries 4870 1 gigers.

What can i say i spend to much but i like speed and stability. My kids is never off the puter it seems and that psu is strong. When i looked at specs it is a true 750 with a max in the 800's and i think 41amps on the single 12v rail. i like it but i had to have bigger...lol
