    Default 4890 Vapor-X OC Results

    Hey All,

I just got a 4890 Vapor-X (OC @ 870mhz edition). CCC Autotune OCd it all the way up to 970/ 1135 but I can only get it stable in 3DMark06 at 935/ 1105.

I am quite surprised at this since I have used two previous reference 4890's, one HIS and one Diamond, which both OCd to 950/ 1150 without issue.

What are you all getting on your 4890 Vapor-X OCs?

    Thanks!

Got mine up to 980/1195 stable. But had to send it back for RMA because it would only boot properly 1/10 or so tries.

Hoping my replacement one wont be a horrible over clocker.

I've got mine at 935/ 1125 now and stable after 3dmark06 ... I am seeing some weird black lines in 2142 and the 2142 mod called First Strike. I'll back down the OC and see if the artifacts go away.

    Default Voltage

Yea I have the same issue with my 4870 Vapor-X cards, After researching it i found its not improper cooling causing the instabilities, Its voltage. They need more juice to go higher but WARNING you will void your warranty!

Intersting ... so did Sapphire undervolt these cards vs. the stock 4890s? If so, how do we go about raising the voltage, and what would a safe voltage increase be?

EDIT: IIRC the voltage settings has to be changed by making a custom BIOS, right? From what I understand its the BIOS tweaks that void the warranty? Is there an easier or different way of doing this?
