I have been running an x800xl for quite a while now and was quite happy with it. I've just installed the current display and DVD writer (see specs below) and since then things have gone haywire. The system locked up a few times during bootup after the monitor was installed and then completely died following the replacement of an LG cd burner with the current DVD burner. Upon investigation it appears that there are now 8 x800xl display devices and when removed all 8 are rediscovered by windows on the next boot. Is this the sort of behaviour to indicate that my card is dying? If not then does anyone have a suggestion as to what it may be? The catch all PSU perhaps? Many thanks for any advice or help!

Yeah I already tried that one. :) I get the same behaviour after a clean install.

Well I've done a couple of clean re-installs at this point. For a while the card was behaving itself but it's now back to being detected 8 times. No trouble with other older cards, just the x800xl. I guess the card must be shot. :(

Heya,..

Well i've never come across THAT before ...! Don't know what to say really, if everything else in the rig checks out OK, then maybe the card has died somehow ..??

As it was OK for a while, did you do anything afterwards that may have caused it to happen ?? Any way of pinpointing the issue so that it can be recreated ??

I tried a clean install and, at first, it was identified 8 times. I removed them once (from device manager) and the next time it came up properly. After that point it behaved just fine till I tried the next clean install when it started (and continued) to be discovered 8 times. Now I'd be happy if all it did was say I had 8 cards. The problem comes when Windows stops booting. ;) It's a bit of a moot point now though. I've replaced the card with an x1600 Pro that is working a treat. The only question now is whether the original card is still under warranty or not. (And whether I can find something resembling a receipt!)

Many thanks for your attention with this rather odd problem!
